Millions for clean energy job training in California

Putting California’s goals of renewable energy development, climate change reduction, clean transportation and green building in the forefront, the state announced a program to provide green job training for the emerging green sector economy. Under the first phase, the program anticipats training 5,600 participants. These job trainees will be prepared for hands-on jobs, installing solar panels and maintaining electric vehicles to computer programming and researching fuel cell technologies.

Green related degree and certificate job training

The job training participants will receive a variety of green-related degrees and certificates such as certified green building professional, home energy rater, certified photovoltaic installer, water energy auditor, and weatherization specialist auditor.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced this program, called the California Clean Energy Workforce Training Program. “This program represents the kind of innovative thinking needed to steer our economy toward a greener future,” said the governor.

The state of California will provide 34 recipients with $27 million in grants. The grantees anticipate training participants for clean energy jobs in weatherization and building retrofit construction, solar installation, green plumbing and energy auditing among others. Some of this money comes from the federal Recovery Act.
