June 2010 U.S. unemployment

The private sector added 83,000 jobs in June 2010, however due to the temporary Census workers being released, the economy shed 125,000 jobs for the month.

June unemployment rate was 9.5 percent, a 0.2 percent drop from May 2010.

A bit of good news is that the private sector added more jobs in June, than May, however it is still a very anemic number of new jobs when looking at the overall jobless numbers in the country.

Another troubling sign is that they are about 1.2 million workers not looking for jobs in June, up by 414,000 from a year earlier. These workers are not currently looking for work because they believe no jobs are available for them. When this many people are discouraged from looking for work, it will continue to depress the economy, because this many workers will have less confidence to spend and thereby adding to the economy.

The number of long-term unemployed in June came in at 6.8 million, unchanged from May.
